The Ram pickup truck line is marked by a variety of models ranging from the standard 1500 to heavy duty 2500 and 3500 editions. Its most common edition is the 1500, offering numerous body styles, truck bed lengths and interior amenities. The Ram 1500 Outdoorsman is designed with sportsmen in mind, people that like to camp, fish, boat or hunt and need a vehicle that supports their lifestyle. Sold in two cab styles and two bed lengths, the 2013 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman is powered by a HEMI V-8 engine and sold in 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.
Engine and Transmission
The Chrysler Group’s 5.7-liter HEMI engine has found a home in many different applications and is the engine powering the Outdoorsman. This engine is paired with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission or an optional 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission.
Chrysler says that the Ram’s engine is rated at 395 horsepower and 407 foot-pounds of torque. When paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission, buyers should enjoy a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy. The new transmission is operated with a rotary shift dial that is mounted right on the dashboard. A 32-gallon fuel tank allows owners to enjoy an extended driving range.
Towing Capacity
The Outdoorsman is all about taking on the hard work and doing it with ease. Its powerful engine means that this truck is towing ready and is equipped with a standard class IV receiver hitch for optimum towing.
Also available with this model is an integrated trailer brake controller, a tool that can be adjusted by the driver and features an instrument panel readout. Included lighted harness plugs can be adapted for various trailering needs as its 4- and 7-pin arrangement makes towing possible day or night. Ram also equips this truck with a heavy-duty cooling fan and transmission cooler, a limited-slip differential and offers a standard 3.92 axle ratio for four-wheel-drive models. Trailer tow mirrors and a rear backup camera are also available.
Ram Amenities

It comes with tow hooks, features a stepped up front air dam and rear exhaust for improved ground clearance, comes with mud/slush mats and offers standard front suspension and transfer skid plates with four-wheel-drive models. Ram Box is a feature Outdoorsmen buyers may love. It offers a secure place for enthusiasts to store their gear and comes with a pair of weatherproof and drainable storage bins, an adjustable bed divider and extender, and a cargo rail system.
Inside, every truck comes equipped with premium cloth seats, with your choice of bucket seats or a split bench seat.
