Business Solutions for Data Storage

Business Solutions for Data Storage

Combining your information from numerous computers in a data storage device provides you with a multitude of advantages, including the power to backup and retrieve your data easier than ever before.

What is RAID Storage?

RAID storage refers to “Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks”, and is the practice of saving information on a server which then safeguards your information by replicating it on several disks which are then saved on the server. If one of the disks in the RAID fails, your data will be okay since the other disks have copies of the identical information.

Folks who could reap the benefits of RAID include any person who uses their computer system to store a substantial amount of data which they would not like to lose. If you are currently storing your information on a standard drive, you may lose everything if your drive crashes.

In the event you lose your information in a crash, you will likely have to take your system to an IT shop in order to attempt to retrieve your data. Computer data recovery is generally expensive and doesn’t always work. And, even if you are able to retrieve some of your information, usually only parts of files are able to be retrieved, which often renders them useless. Other times, what is savable just comes back as unusable garbage.

What is NAS RAID?

NAS Storage is a RAID system that uses a Network Attached Storage device, (NAS), in order to protect you from information loss when your drive fails. And with hard drives, it really IS just a matter of time before they crash. They may work fine for months or years and then one day just stop. And the major problem with that is you never know right when it is going to fail, so the only way to protect your data is to back it up.

What is JBOD?

JBOD stands for “Just a Bunch of Disks” or “Just a Bunch of Drives,” which is essentially what it is. JBOD allow folks to simply connect drives to their computer. Unlike RAID and NAS RAID, JBOD simply adds extra connections without the redundancy of backups. The nice part about JBOB is that it allows you to handle odd-sized drives as though they were a single unit. For example, a 30GB drive and a 10GB drive would register as one 40GB drive. That makes JBOD a great choice for folks who have a lot of odd-sized drives around

The Difference Between Scheduling and Routing in Franchise Territory Management

The Difference Between Scheduling and Routing in Franchise Territory Management

When it comes to the world of franchising, it’s much about territory. You see, franchisors obviously sell franchised outlets with specific territories, and then try to fill up the entire country as quickly as possible to dominate the market and their competition. As they continue to extend their brand name, they build a synergy, and it is imperative that they don’t leave any holes on their expansion map, or leave too many overlaps which can cause cannibalization of their own sales.

Now then, once those territories are created, franchisors and franchisees alike must deal with their missions at hand. The franchisor will have territorial managers which will go from territory to territory to monitor the franchisees, and that involves a lot of traveling, and crisis management. It also involves training and monitoring the terms and conditions of the confidential operations manual and operating procedures.

Generally these territorial managers will go from territory to territory on some sort of schedule, but since “events occur” and crisis are “bound to happen” they must also jockey around their schedule in their visiting rounds. And there is a big difference between scheduling and routing. Having a route and going from place to place can be difficult due to the hours of operation, the traffic involved, and the resting points in between the travels. Having a route in a day planner, or the electronic version, iPad, with a schedule on it is great, but things never generally go as planned.

Luckily, many franchisors have purchased scheduling and routing software for franchise territory management, which works quite well. And interestingly enough much of the same type of software can be used also by the franchisee if it is a business that does deliveries, or if it is a mobile service franchise. Consider if you will that the franchisee’s customers also need to be serviced, and many of them are on schedules, or routes. And there are also call-in orders, special jobs, add-on services, which can cause disruptions in the efficiency of the routes, and throw off the schedules.

Additionally, in this day and age of instant service, and customers using instant messaging, calling on the cell phone, and sending in e-mails, whichever software system is used to maintain the routing, and or scheduling, must all be integrated in real time. We live in a mobile world, and consumers expect things right now. Further, those that have been put on schedules or appointments, or on a route demand there is adherence to that as well. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this.…

Ensuring Your Self Storage Business Succeeds

Ensuring Your Self Storage Business Succeeds

Any business has a chance to succeed if the right preparation and steps are taken. The right attitude is also crucial to make everything work for the best.

In the self storage industry, owners and their partners need to have the proper business plan and marketing strategies if they want to gain profits moving forward. Research and careful planning must be done to ensure that the business moves to the right path.

By research, this means learning about the latest trends and news in the self storage sector and even doing a feasibility study or perhaps a survey among consumers. By gathering information on the changes that occur in the industry, you will be able to have a better grasp of the factors that cause the changes and determine as well whether it will be a good time to get into this kind of business.

As customers are the ones who will contribute to the success of your self storage facility, exert effort then to determine what they are looking for in terms of their storage needs. And doing a survey will be the best option to achieve this. A recent research has shown that almost 44 percent of consumers utilize self storage particularly when they are moving from one house to another or from one place to a new location.

Keep in mind that self storage trends in the past differ from what is happening today. In the marketing aspect alone, a lot has changed. It used to be that people rely only on word of mouth in promoting and advertising their business. Today, however, there are so many avenues business owners can use to market their products and services to their target audience. While the old methods such as using the traditional media (newspapers, TV and radio) still work, more ways are available nowadays especially those that can be easily and conveniently done on the internet. With online or internet marketing, the reach is global and communication is done in real time.

Location is another crucial factor. In the past, spaces utilized to build storage facilities were far from the city center and not easily accessible by customers. Any available space will do and some operators were not necessarily particular about the location. But since most customers today prioritize the area where they can store their personal or business belongings, this should really be an important consideration. A rental unit close to a customer’s residence or place of work will most likely be their first choice compared to one situated far from home.

Offering various types of storage units is ideal. Considering that not only individuals and homeowners are utilizing the facility these days but business organizations as well, providing both the standard and temperature controlled units will enable operators to attract more clients. Self storage has become more diverse and is no longer limited to accommodating just furniture, other personal possessions and motorcycles.

Finally, don’t ignore the security aspect as this is important in keeping stored items within the facility safe from burglars. Investing in the proper security system from locks and keys, lighting to fire alarms and surveillance camera is a must.…

Spring Into Organic Gardening

Spring Into Organic Gardening

Spring is here and that usually means gardening. Are you are gardener? There are all types of gardens: indoor gardening, pot or container gardens, raised beds, community gardens, and the regular garden plot.

Homesteading: After Ken and I were married, it felt like we were pioneers. He had bought a plot of land just outside of town in the bush and cleared it before building our house. We finished the house together as well as worked on taming the land. We were by a river, but down a huge bank. We decided to plant a garden and build a green house. Ken rigged a pump from the river to water them. This was not just a simple plant some seeds. We had to clear the trees and stumps first, till the soil, rake it smooth, and then plant. It was a huge pile of work.

Raised Beds: Eventually we built boxes and from then on have gardened with raised beds. We find you basically triple your garden. For example, you don’t need rows in between to walk through, so your rows end up being pretty much the same space you allow in between plants within a row. For example, if you plant your carrots 2 inches apart, then your rows are 2 inches apart. If you have very little space, I strongly encourage you to try a raised bed. It triples your garden, the soil is warmer which lengthens your gardening season, plus weeds are kept to a minimum.

Organic Gardening: We also started reading up on companion gardening as a way to control pests rather than using chemicals. Being young and new to gardening, my greatest resource was my subscription to Mother Earth News. Certain plants act like a repellent control to other plants or exchange some needed nourishment. For example, pole beans and corn. Beans contribute nitrogen while corn feeds heavily on nitrogen. Beans are also good company for carrots, peas, beets and potatoes. (Tip I just learned: I read to not allow beans to mature on the plant or they stop producing. Also do not pick or cultivate beans when they are wet or it spreads viral diseases.) Marigolds have a repellent effect for tomatoes and potatoes. Basil improves the growth and flavour of tomatoes and peppers. Plant onions with leafy greens, broccoli with radishes and lettuce, spinach with garlic. There are so many to list that go well together, but pretty much what you naturally eat together seems to be a common thread. A good site that has a list for companion planting is at Golden Harvest.

Preserving and Canning: So now you are harvesting the rewards of your garden, and there is more than you can eat. What do you do? You start learning how to preserve, and canning is very popular. Freezing is good, but the life of frozen food is not as long before it gets freezer burnt. Canned goods are good for years on your shelf. Fruit, meat and fish, vegetables, and desserts like carrot pudding are all candidates for canning.

Jars and more Jars: With canning comes jars, jars and more jars. It seemed when I started canning, I was continually spending money on jars. It wasn’t long before people were giving me their jars and then all of a sudden I had so many jars, you just don’t know where to store them. It was okay when we lived in the north because I had a cold room and shelves to store all my jars, full or empty. But when we moved to Yellowknife, it was time to purge. Another move 10 years later, and we purged again. Last year I purged even more. With just the 2 of us, I do not need to can as much.

Organizing and Storing Your Jars: So take time to purge your jars, keep only your best and the ones you will really use. I only kept my good mason jars and purged out recycled jars like mayonnaise, Cheez Whiz, jam jars. Some options for storing jars: Make use of the space under a stairway by building shelves or cubes, an old armoire. recuperate some old kitchen cabinets for storage, or free-standing shelves.…
